DESCRIPTION:
APW - Ball Hamilton, Official B of RT Standard (Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen) with rare brake-wheel damascene, Grade 999C, 17J, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with hinged bezel and threaded rear, white enamel SS dial, distinctive pierced Ball style hands, SW-LS, brake-wheel pattern nickel damascene, s#28536. A rare and beautiful movement, the damascene pattern of this watch depicts a 5-spoke locomotive brake-wheel, and this very distinctive pattern is found only among the early portion of Ball Hamilton B of RT Standard 17 jewel production. These watches were identified in Hamilton factory records as Grade 999C, and a review of the Hamilton factory ledgers shows a total production of only 285 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, small patch of scratching to main plate in space between balance cock table and barrel bridge, some typical fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, mild oxide to regulator spring; dial with cluster of hls below seconds-register between 4:30 and 6, patched edge chip under bezel at 4, small edge chip under bezel at 6, tiny patched edge flake under bezel at 2; fine hands, hour with slight bend, some finish loss to seconds-hand and tip of minute; case shows little wear, ding to rear above center, some small dings and nicks to band and bezel, good engine turning detail, band with tarnish in areas adjacent hinges and pendant, inner surface of case rear is through entirely to underlying brass; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
